SELECTIONS marks milestone 15th group exhibition
August 30, 2016

DeSerres helps AOE Arts Council recognize Ottawa artists

This year AOE Arts Council celebrates the 15 year anniversary of SELECTIONS, an   annual juried exhibit featuring the work of local Ottawa visual artists. SELECTIONS 2016 will showcase 33 Ottawa artists in a group exhibit of photographic, acrylic, textile, sculpture, mixed media and digital art from September 22 to October 18 at the Shenkman Arts Centre in the Trinity Art Gallery.

AOE Arts Council first organized the show as a way for its members to share their work with residents. Over the years, the Arts Council has seen many artists participate in the show as a means to further their artistic careers. In its 15th exhibiting year, the Arts Council hopes visitors will appreciate the talent of our city’s artists, recognize how the practice of art is meaningful, and, ultimately, consider how local art can contribute positively to the quality of their lives.

SELECTIONS is highly anticipated by local artists, as it is  one of the few juried shows in Ottawa that offers artists both peer and public recognition in a professional municipal gallery setting.

“It is a privilege for the AOE Arts Council to continue to play a role in connecting local artists with our community, and we have proudly highlighted the exceptional talents of hundreds of Ottawa’s visual artists over the past 15 years through SELECTIONS,” said Lisa Cruickshank, president of the AOE Arts Council Board of Directors.   “We look forward to presenting the 2016 exhibiting artists with support from our presenting sponsor DeSerres, and invite everyone to stop by the Trinity Art Gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre to enjoy their works.”

The jury is formed by professional artists from a variety of visual art practices and backgrounds. During the exhibition, visitors are encouraged to cast their vote for the People’s Choice award. This year, jury members reviewed 186 submitted works to narrow the ‘selection’ to 47 artworks.

The public of all ages, members of the arts community and media are invited to meet the artists at the vernissage on Thursday, September 22 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. SELECTIONS 2016 will be on exhibit from September 22 to October 18 in the Trinity Art Gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre.
