14 New Art Projects Added to the Shenkman Arts Centre
201516 ARTicipate Grant Recipients Announced

Ottawa, Ontario – AOE Arts Council is proud to unveil the ARTicipate Endowment Fund Grant recipients for 2015-16. This year, a total of $24,450 in funding was awarded to 14 grant projects that will enable local artists, groups of artists and arts organisations to present in professional spaces at the Shenkman Arts Centre.

The ARTicipate Endowment Fund offers performing and visual artists unique opportunities for creative exploration and showcasing their work to the general public and their peers. Getting funding is not an easy task for artists, which is why the Arts Council created the ARTicipate Endowment Fund, to support artists in their pursuit to further develop or create new original work.

"The ARTicipate grant assists me with needed funding to promote my visual art and share it with a wider audience. This enables me to be in the studio on a consistent basis allowing me to concentrate on the artwork itself," says artist Karen Goetzinger, 2015-16 ARTicipate grant recipient.  "Art is made when inspiration meets effort. Receiving the grant means I can be focused on creating works and not worrying about the cost of marketing and exhibiting."

Recipients use the funding to help secure rehearsal time and space, add to their creative team, promote their show or offset production costs.

“These funds will allow Coro Vivo Ottawa to perform a large scale work such as Messiah in a high-profile performance venue in the East end of Ottawa; thereby enriching the music scene on a city-wide scale and specifically in the East end community of Orleans. These funds will also allow Coro Vivo Ottawa to produce a performance which involves several large-scale elements such as orchestral players and soloists and present this performance in a venue that can accommodate a large number of Ottawa’s concert goers,” says Antonio Llaca, Music Director at Coro Vivo Ottawa.

Ottawa residents will be able to experience a variety of artistic performances and exhibits at the Shenkman Arts Centre. The 2015-16 ARTicipate Grants projects include theatre (5), music (5), dance (2) and visual art (4) as part of the Centre’s enhanced programming.
