AOE ARTS COUNCIL LIGHTS UP THE NIGHT
October 24, 2013

Five local artists will illuminate the Shenkman Arts Centre during ARTinis

Five local light artists will dazzle guests at the Shenkman Arts Centre during AOE Arts Council’s annual fundraiser ARTinis on November 7, 2013. The upper and lower lobbies will be animated by local artists Darryl Hall, Ian Matthews, Karen Goetzinger, Jennifer Stewart and Michael Parkin.

“We wanted to put artists front and centre during the event to share their vision with our guests,” says Cassandra Olsthoorn, AOE’s program coordinator. “This light exhibit pushes the boundaries of our evening and demonstrates innovation and creative use of the spaces here at the Centre.”

AOE’s ARTinis event has a reputation for being a feast for all the senses. Guests will be able to engage with the artists under the luminous accents provided by Advantage Audio and Visual.

The visual display will include:

  • A series of light ‘painted’ artworks by Ian Matthews in the LaLande + Doyle exhibition space in the lower lobby.

  • Jennifer Stewart’s projections of abstract environments from Kodak carousel projectors, creating a dreamlike atmosphere around DJ Emily Jones.

  • Three pieces designed by sculptor Michael Parkin that use LED lamps while projecting constantly-moving patterns of light and shadows on the walls under the stairwell and in the corner of the lower lobby.

  • Karen Goetzinger’s ‘A State of Transparency,’ a walkthrough of mixed media textile and lite panels.
  • An impressive water wall projection feature created by Darryl Hall as a backdrop for the upper lobby bar and seating area.

Also new this year will be two furnished lounges by Décorléans and an opportunity to sample cheese and Ontario wines expertly paired by Savvy Company sommeliers.

Foodies will not be disappointed or have to wait in long lines for savoury and sweet bites prepared by Grenfell Catering, Cuisine & Passion, Bowich Best Organic Sandwich and Epicuria.

Once again there will be a chance to win two Porter Airlines tickets and opportunities to bid on a diverse selection of silent auction items.

In its sixth year, AOE’s premier fundraiser provides artists and art lovers a chance to mingle with business and community leaders to show their support for AOE Arts Council and its members. Funds raised will allow AOE to create opportunities for local artists and to support Ottawa’s vibrant arts community. AOE Arts Council wishes to thank its returning ARTinis title sponsor Place d’Orléans shopping centre for their continued support of the arts.
