ARTpreneur Ottawa Brings Business Savvy to Artists
October 07, 2013

A one-day conference of speakers, networking and insight

ARTPRENEUR OTTAWA 2013 will be a one-day conference dedicated to helping artists succeed in business. The conference will bring together leading creative industries experts and art community individuals who will motivate and inform artists on how to transform their passions into professions.

“The economy needs the arts. Thriving cultural communities are essential for Canadian cities trying to compete globally. The arts attract talented workers. It also inspires innovation in other sectors,” says Suki Lee, Artpreneur keynote speaker and President/CEO of Inbox Communications. “Pursuing a career in the arts models the future of work—artists are entrepreneurial, independent and driven by their individual vision.”

This year’s theme is REbranding the Artist as well as their art. The program will deliver current and relevant business information to artists of all disciplines. Delegates will be able to attend sessions about self-promotion and social media use, applying for public art calls and how to network.

“We wanted to assist artists in becoming sustainable,” says chair of the ARTpreneur organizing committee and vice president of Wallack’s Art Supplies Michael Wallack. “It was important for this conference to be affordable and accessible to all artists, regardless of where they might find themselves in their career path.”

The third ARTPRENEUR conference will be held on Saturday, October 19, at the state-of-the-art Shenkman Arts Centre, in Ottawa, Ontario. The multi-disciplinary arts centre will provide large conference spaces for a vendor’s expo and financial pavilion, breakout session rooms and a presentation attendance capacity of 500-seats in the Harold Shenkman Hall.
