Despite having been processed through various scientific and pedagogical institutes Frank still managed to retain an aesthetic dimension that he has been exploring through the medium of photography for over 55 years.
Although he still considers photographing petunias a worthwhile pursuit, Frank felt that he could not compete with formally trained artists and therefore sought subjects that demanded something else of him.
Over a period of time Frank rediscovered the ancient ethos surrounding caves. Many people live with the notion that caves are dank, sinister and austere habitats, full of strange denizens. Although caves appear robust when first viewed, they are in fact a complex and fragile ecosystem. The dazzling beauty of majestic speleothems on guard in total darkness and sloshing water violating an uncommon silence fills our hearts with joy. The notion of caves was woven into the framework of the mythologies and religions of the people on all five continents. Since the dawn of time, humans have been intimately related to caves.
As in a drama consecrated to the cycle of life, they procreated, gave birth, inhabited and were buried in caves. For eons caves have been used as naturally occurring "cathedrals" for spiritual meditation. Frank’s interest in caves lays in their scarceness, their aesthetic forms and their mystic aura. These entities of rare creation require nurturing and protection until we have the knowledge to rationally interact with them. Frank promotes conservation by exposing the caves occult beauty through the medium of photography.
