Meet the Artists: Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Joining their passion and devotion for art, Clara Kim and Josée Francoeur are two Canadian artists living in the National Capital region. Through this exhibition, they wish to convey the emotion that is the result of being one with their art.

Korea and Canada, Ontario and Quebec, English and French, Abstract and Modern Impressionism, all are united in harmony in this Unity exhibition.

Clara Kim

Clara was born in South Korea, and took inspiration from both Canadian and Korean cultures. Her new style of painting aims to renovate the beauty of traditional Korean paintings with a fresh modern feel. She utilizes the concept ‘the beauty of white space’ to show elegance and modesty in her work.

In traditional Korean art, white space acts as a blank canvas to the people, giving them opportunity for imagination, yet the simplicity of the background draws attention to the highlight of the piece. Through this, she has developed a new style that is both Modern Korean art and Abstract.

Clara’s signature thick-texture technique captures an essence of modernism while leaving simple backgrounds such as clouds, the air, or the beauty that is the plain white space, a recurring theme in various Korean and East Asian artworks.

Clara’s Modern Korean Art displays luxury in simplicity, passion hidden in calmness, and beauty within sorrow.

She calls her new style “Modern Korean painting”

Josée Francoeur

am an emerging modern impressionism artist who is inspired by the beauty of nature. The Ottawa region offers me infinite opportunities to be closer to these breathtaking surroundings. I paint nature in all of its splendour to remind everyone of its amazing beauty and how we are all united within its grace.

Through my professional education in science, I understand the chemistry of colors and apply it to all of my creations. From taking inspiring pictures of nature to mixing my own colors and creating my artwork, I convey my emotions on every single canvas with every single brushstroke.

The intent of my participation in the Unity Exhibition, August 24th 2017, is to share the heartfelt emotions I feel when I paint the natural world and show how I am one with my art. Between light and shadows, life is revealed through vivid colors and shapes. The flexibility and depth of color of oil paint allows me to pay tribute to this beauty with thick modern impressionistic brush strokes dancing on each and every canvas.
